About Us
Upside Robotics builds autonomous field robots for corn growers. We’ve raised over $15M CAD, have 35+ customers across Ontario, and $1M in signed work for 2026. We’re moving fast toward Series A and need engineers who can build, test, and ship—no hand-holding, no endless meetings. You’ll work on real machines that drive themselves through fields and make a real dent in how food is produced. It’s tough work with long days and real accountability, but if you’re the kind of person who gets fired up by solving hard problems and seeing your work actually matter, you’ll fit right in.

What We're Looking For
Upside Robotics is hiring a Software Engineer Co-Op to join our software team and help build the code that powers our autonomous robots. This role is perfect for a student who wants to write software that controls real hardware operating in real fields—not just simulations.
This role combines software development at our Kitchener facility with testing on real robots. We're looking for someone who's technically minded, curious, adaptable, and ready to grow in an environment where your ideas and work have real impact. Help us build the future of farming—one robot at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Development:
- Design, build, and test software across our robotics stack (navigation, perception, controls, tooling, or infrastructure).
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
- Debug and resolve issues across software and, where needed, the software-hardware boundary.
- Testing & Deployment:
- Validate your work in simulation and on real robots, both on the bench and in the field.
- Help build and improve tooling that speeds up development, testing, and deployment.
- Document your work clearly for the rest of the team.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with the hardware and production teams to improve system reliability and robot uptime.
- Contribute ideas to improve our codebase, processes, and development workflow.
Requirements
- Experience: Programming experience through coursework, personal projects, or previous roles.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in at least one language relevant to our stack (e.g., Python, C++); comfortable with Git and standard development workflows.
- Fundamentals: Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Problem Solving: Able to break down problems, debug systematically, and learn new tools quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Degree or Diploma in Software, Computer, or Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Be in 2A term or later.
- Languages: C/ C++, Python with demonstrated experience in data processing and analysis, used tools like Matplotlib, Numpy
- Experience with robotics frameworks (e.g., ROS), Linux, embedded systems, computer vision, or machine learning.
